History
Eastover dates back to 1927, and it has watched generations of its original families grow up, prosper, and raise their own families within the community. However, these old familiar faces gladly welcome newcomers with open arms. This is just one reason why Eastover is one of the most sought-after places to live in all of Charlotte and its metropolitan area.
Other reasons include proximity to great schools, beautiful parks, and local churches. Small local shops and restaurants are practically with walking distances, and the business and entertainment opportunities in Uptown Charlotte are just minutes away. As for architecture, you will not find more beautiful homes anywhere else in the city. From Georgian to Tudor styles, sprawling estates and large bungalows sit on large, shady lots among the community's lush greenery, mature oak trees, and babbling creeks. Residents love that they can count on a quick commute time and spend their evenings kicking back and relaxing in this peaceful neighborhood.
Charlotte's history dates back to 1768 when the "Queen City" was founded and named for Queen Charlotte, the wife of King George III of England. Over the next century, it became the site of the nation's first gold rush, a popular spot for cotton farming, and as the railroads rolled in, a major hub for textiles production.
Eastover did not come along until 1927 when a man named E.C. Griffith developed what was once a couple of old dairy farms next to the Myers Park neighborhood. The community eventually attracted some of the city’s most prominent residents and continues to do so today.

Local Attractions
Eastover is mostly residential, but it is just minutes away from shopping, dining, and entertainment in every direction. Along Providence Road, you will find an assortment of restaurants, and the Mint Museum is located within the boundaries of the community. There are also a couple of parks nearby. Of course, there are several prominent shopping centers within a 5 to 10-minute drive, and Uptown Charlotte sits just northwest of the community.

- Napa on Providence – Napa on Providence is an award-winning restaurant located right in the Eastover neighborhood. The restaurant looks and feels as if it were plucked right out of Napa Valley with its live grapevines, Spanish-style architecture, and tables made from old wine barrels. It even has its own herb garden. In addition to the extensive wine list, you will find a number of delicious dishes on the menu, like various pizzas, salads, pasta dishes, and seafood.
- Laurel Market – The Eastover community has its own deli, and it is quite a popular spot to grab a meal. At Laurel Market, you can order sandwiches, salads, soups, and sides. You can even place your order online when you are in a hurry.
- Taipei Express – For those busy nights when you just do not feel like cooking dinner, Taipei Express is right there in Eastover to handle the job for you. You will find traditional no-frills Chinese cuisine on the menu like rice and noodle dishes, chicken, pork, seafood, and vegetarian meals. It is one of the community's favorite takeout places.
- Fenwick's on Providence – Fenwick’s on Providence opened its doors in 1984, and it has been a Charlotte staple ever since. The quiet, casual eatery is the perfect spot for Sunday brunch or a nice lunch or dinner throughout the week. On the menu, you will find traditional fare like steaks, burgers, and salads.
Transportation
- Airports– Eastover is just 10 miles east of Charlotte Douglas International Airport. The busy transportation hub handles 713 daily departures and provides nonstop service to 159 destinations.
- Public Transportation – Bus service via Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) is available via several stops along Providence and Randolph Roads.
- Major Roads and Interstates – Randolph and Providence Roads form much of the border of the Eastover community. It is a quick drive from Interstate 77 and Andrew Jackson Highway and within a half-hour drive or Interstates 85 and 485.
Shopping
- Park Road Shopping Center – Built in 1956, Park Road was Charlotte’s first open-air shopping center. Some of its original tenants are still there today, as well as many new favorites. Best of it all, it is less than 5 minutes from Eastover. Stores include Harris Teeter, Blackhawk Hardware, Michael’s, Julie's Boutique, Park Road Books, Great Outdoor Provision Co., J Crew Factory, and more. You will also find a theater and over 15 restaurants here, as well as services ranging from banks and a post office to hair salons, fitness studios, and a gas station.
- Cotswold Village – Eastover is also just a few minutes from Cotswold Village, another shopping center that is considered to be one of the oldest in the area. Restaurants and shopping include Harris Teeter, Publix, Starbucks, Smashburger, ULTA Beauty, Marshall’s, PetSmart, Panera, Walgreens, and Cost Plus World Market.
- SouthPark Mall – SouthPark Mall is one of the most upscale shopping destinations in the Southeast and one of the most profitable malls in the United States. It is just 3 miles from Eastover. Stores here include Macy's, Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus, Belk, Apple, American Girl, Kate Spade, Tiffany & Co., Pottery Barn, Burberry, Louis Vuitton, and more.

Entertainment
- Bank of America Stadium – Sports fans love the fact that Bank of America Stadium is just a quick drive from Eastover. Located in Uptown Charlotte, the stadium is the home of the NFL's Carolina Panthers. It's a great place to spend a fall Sunday afternoon, and it hosts other events throughout the year.
- Bojangles Coliseum – Eastover is just a few minutes west of the infamous Bojangles Coliseum. The small stadium and concert hall is a popular spot for concerts, standup comedy, and other shows. It dates back to the 1950s.
Things To Do
- Mint Museum Randolph – The neighborhood just happens to be home to one of two locations for Charlotte's famous Mint Museum. It opened in 1936, becoming the first art museum in the state. Today, it houses several permanent art collections, including American art, ancient art, American and European ceramics, North Carolina pottery, historic costumes, African art, Asian art, photography, and contemporary art.
- Eastover and Randolph Road Parks – There are several parks in the Eastover area, but one of the closest is Randolph Park, which sits just outside the community. The 30-acre park is home to 5 softball/baseball fields, batting cages, 3 tee ball fields, a soccer field, concession stands, and walking trails. Eastover Park is located within the community's boundaries, and it features 19 acres of open green space.
- Myers Park Country Club – There are also several country clubs in South Charlotte, and the closest one to Eastover is the exclusive private 176-acre Myers Park Country Club. It was established in 1921, and today it has a newly renovated 18-hole golf course, 13 tennis courts, a swimming pool, a fitness facility, and a gorgeous clubhouse.
Real Estate Information
There are over 1,000 homes in Eastover, and while most of the earliest-built houses are Colonial style, you will find an assortment of everything from Georgian and Tudor to contemporary and traditional. You will also find a few townhomes in the area, as well as some of the city's most elegant estates. Many homes sit on larger lots on the tree-lined streets. Sidewalks also line the streets throughout much of the neighborhood. Houses typically cost anywhere between $500,000 and $5 million.
