Just 15 miles north of Charlotte is the expanding community of Huntersville. The town is considered the first
Lake Norman town north of Charlotte and was officially incorporated in 1873. It was named in honor of major landowner and cotton farmer Robert Boston Hunter. The area was known for its farming, fertile land, and rail line which quickly grew the community.

This lakefront community has a population of nearly 60,000 people and continues to expand as more and more families move to the town, motived by the area's enticing attributes. The allure of the remaining farmland, the simple commute into the city of Charlotte and its easy lake access make this neighborhood a great place to call home. Huntersville provides access to Lake Norman and its 520 miles of shoreline. Residents can find access to the lake by visiting Blythe Landing Park, just off NC Highway 73 for launching boats and other recreational activities. There is also local access to
Mountain Island Lake.

History
Huntersville was officially incorporated in 1873. The town was renamed from Craighead to Huntersville in honor of major landowner and cotton farmer, Robert Boston Hunter. The town was known for its fertile land where farmers grew cotton on their large plantations and prominent schools attracted families from near and far. Steam engines carried passengers on rails that still run parallel to N.C. 115. Textile mills also brought more jobs and residents to the area.Â

- Killington's Restaurant & Pub - Located at exit 23 on I-77, Killington's opened its doors in 2008. They wanted to bring American fusion to the north of the city of Charlotte. They were one of the first gastropubs in the area. You can enjoy high-quality food in a casual atmosphere. There is something for everyone on their menu, from kids to meat-lovers to vegetarian to vegan to the gluten-free menu options. And save room for the homemade desserts!

The airport welcomes more than 46 million travelers annually. Several private transportation companies provide shuttles to and from the airport.

- Birkdale Village - Find an assortment of popular stores and restaurants in Birkdale Village, near the southeastern corner of Lake Norman. Some of them include Dick's Sporting Goods, Bath & Body Works, Barnes & Noble, Total Wine, American Eagle Outfitters, Starbucks, Gap, Talbots, and Banana Republic. There is also a movie theater.
- Rosedale Shopping Center - This center is located across from Huntersville Medical Center. It is anchored by Harris Teeter, CVS, and Publix. Find many local places to shop and dine like Kid to Kid, Killington's Restaurant, Sabor Latin, Duck Donuts, and TCBY. A Tae Kwon Do studio can also be found here.
- Northlake Mall - Find all the favorites you would expect to see at a large shopping mall.
