Paint Your Porch Haint Blue
If you have Southern roots, you may be familiar with this tradition. Haint blue is the color of paint applied to the ceiling of a front porch, which originated in the South out of fear of haints, or haunted spirits. St. Joseph Prayer & Statue
Many years ago, European nuns would bury a medal or coin that looks like St. Joseph on the property they wished to buy for the convent. Over time, this tradition evolved into burying a statue and the ritual changed from buyers to sellers.
- Dig a hole near your “for sale” sign
- Wrap the statue in plastic or cloth to protect it
- Place the statue in the hole, with his hands pointing towards the house
- Cover the statue with dirt
- Say a prayer to St. Joseph for help in selling your home quickly
Sage Burning
In Native American culture, smudging or burning a bundle of dried sage leaves is said to expel bad vibes and leftover energies and replace them with harmony and light. Homeowners have been known to burn sage to clean out bad energy and boost curb appeal.
- Purchase a sage smudge stick
- It is recommended to carry a glass or ceramic bowl as you are walking around your home to catch the ash is it burns
- Fan or feather the stick as you are cleansing the home
- Open windows while you are burning to let the smoke out

Use Feng Shui
Feng Shui has been used for decades more for tradition than superstition, but many homeowners believe in the power of feng shui when trying to sell their home. The technique uses colors and strategic layouts for rooms to bring about peace and harmony. Some common beliefs are:
- Place yellow flowers in dining or living spaces
- Hang mirrors in the East, Southeast, and Northern areas of your home
- Turn on a light in an empty room for 3 hours each day
- In your home office, place your chair towards the door
- Clean up clutter in the home to keep the positive energy flowing
