Spring Clean in 5 Easy Steps!

Spring Clean in 5 Easy Steps!

Remember the “KonMari Method in 5 Steps” that was all over the media in 2019? We even wrote about it here. Well, today we are back to mix in some of those steps with other spring cleaning tips in 5 easy steps to get your house ready on the inside, so you can enjoy the outside.

Clean Out the Cleaning Supplies

First on the list is to take an inventory of your cleaning supplies. Toss out the old products that are full of unhealthy toxins. Replace them with products that do not contain—or have reduced amounts of—fragrances, irritants, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), and flammable ingredients. This is the first step to creating a healthier, cleaner home.

Clear Out The Clutter

Have piles started invading the countertops, desks, and corners of the closet? Do as Marie Condo would do and clear it all out. Go through each item and remember it is quality over quantity. Choose each item wisely based on keeping things you truly treasure. Has the item fulfilled its role in your home? If yes, then toss. If it is truly a treasure, considering putting it on display to enjoy for years to come. And don’t forget about the KonMari fold once you have sorted through your wardrobe.

Windows, Fireplaces, & Kitchen Appliances

Tackle all of these items on a cloudy day. Windows that are hot are more likely to leave streaks after cleaning. Leave a few windows open on the day you are cleaning them and let the stagnant air out and the fresh air in! Hire someone to clean out the fireplace or provide general maintenance. Don’t forget to clean out the dishwasher, refrigerator, tea kettle, and coffee machine {although we hope you are cleaning these more than 1x per year}.

Organize the Cabinets & Linen Closets

Spring is a great time to clean out bathroom cabinets and linen closets. Most people accumulate towels, washcloths, and more throughout the year. This is a great time to make a donation pile for a pet shelter of old towels and washcloths. Shelters & rescues are always asking for these items. Don’t forget to take the time to organize the medicine cabinet as well. Toss any expired medications and sunscreen. Yes, even sunscreen has an expiration date.

Touch Up Walls & Doors

Unless you live in your home part-time and never have any guests, you will have scuffs around doors and walls. Walk around your home and scrub or touch-up any scuffs or dirt that may have accumulated throughout the year. This is also a great time to wipe down the baseboards, windowsills, and doorknobs.

Spring cleaning doesn’t have to be hard. Incorporating the KonMari method in your home can save you time inside to get outdoors and enjoy the lovely springtime activities with your friends and family.
