North Carolina was among the top three states Americans relocated to in 2024, per a recent analysis by the National Association of Realtors. Charlotte in particular stands out, data show.

Being closer to family, whether they’re in Charlotte or more easily accessible through our amazing airport, has become a huge factor in relocations to the Queen City, according to VP of Sales & Training Sarah Szczodrowski.
When you look at corporate relocations, Charlotte has a very low failed transfer rate. In other words, most folks asked to move here for work are happy to do so, Pappas says.
That’s in part because of the bountiful job opportunities in Charlotte, Szczodrowski says. Clients moving here for a particular job, say for banking, often feel confident they could find new opportunities here. You don’t have to leave the city to climb the corporate ladder.
The relatively lower cost of living, lower corporate tax rates, mild weather and robust university and hospital systems are also among top attractions for newcomers.
As for lifestyle, Charlotte’s a melting pot! Each neighborhood has its own personality and things to do, from suburbs like Matthews with its idyllic farmers market to walkable neighborhoods close to Uptown like NoDa, Pappas says.
